KIPP New Orleans Schools

Roll to the Polls began during the final weeks of the 2019 Louisiana Runoff election. Co-founders Jen Walner and Danah Fisher wanted to help first-time student voters and those without transportation get to the polls. Jen and Danah called upon friends and family to join them in financially supporting bus and van transportation provided by the Power Coalition for Equity and Justice, KIPP New Orleans Schools, Collegiate Academies, and Allen Chapel AME Church (Gonzales, LA). Encouraged by the success of this effort, they established a donor-advised fund in March 2020 called Roll to the Polls, whose mission is to ensure that every voter has the chance to cast his or her vote, regardless of transportation challenges.

Roll to the Polls is a nonpartisan organization. We believe that elections should be inclusive and that every voter has a right to participate in the democratic process.

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, we have expanded our mission to support groups that promote alternatives to in-person voting, including vote by mail, drive-through voting, etc. To the extent that in-person voting is available, we will support the creation of safe transportation options that provide voters and drivers with hand sanitizer, masks, and gloves.
